Strings Class & Instrument Rental Info Tuesday, September 15th Instrument REntal Night 6:00 Info meeting for Parents (Performing Arts Center) 5:30 -6 pm (pick-up online pre-orders only) 6:15 - 7 PM Open rental time with Meyer Music for all third, fourth, or fifth grade strings students and any new or returning strings students (3rd - 12th) 2nd Graders do NOT NEED to rent their own instruments (we have school supplied violins), but if you are hoping to get your child their own instrument, I HIGHLY recommend renting vs. purchasing!! (for quality, overall cost, service, and best musical learning experience) 3rd Grade String Players are encouraged to rent their own instrument for home practice (though school violins are available for 3rd graders to use during class.) 3rd Graders who rent an instrument may choose Violin, Viola, or Cello. 4th & 5th grade Strings students must have their own instrument to participate and may choose Violin, Viol, Cello or Bass! (scholarships may be available for 4th or 5th graders who wish to participate but need to borrow an instrument) Meyer Music offers great rental packages: including an instrument & bow, case, rosin, shoulder rest or rock stop, music stand, and method book (Essential Elements for Strings Book One + CD), and insurance. Please order online or call the store with questions and Meyer will deliver your child's instrument to school! In addition to these items (listed above), 3rd through 5th grade students are asked to bring to class a 3-ring binder with protective clear plastic page covers in which to keep all music given to them. ALL 4th & 5th grade strings students please register for Strings Class online! If your child seems to have "lost interest" or expresses anxiety about playing again, or seems to feel guilt or frustration or embarrassment for not practicing, or any other negative feelings that commonly attack learners of all ages... please assure them that ALL of those feelings are normal and expected... I feel them sometimes too! Especially during the summer... or any LONG break from performances or playing together. If our child has previously enjoyed strings, but is now on the fence, sometimes... just delaying "decisions" can be helpful... they may need to express their fears and feelings, but they don't have to decide yet! Let them start school and see their friends and ME! We'll reconnect and encourage and remind each other that we enjoy learning and making music together, Almost always, the joy of playing, and the confidence, and skills, and fun...returns quickly! Showing up the first time and getting the instrument out after a long time... can be the hardest part!
North Muskegon Elementary Strings 2nd grade violin= during "specials" Music Class 3rd grade strings = during "specials" music class 4th & 5th grade Strings An Extra Opportunity: Weekly Strings Classes - 2 days (during lunch recess) 4th grade: Mondays & Thursdays 5th grade: Tuesdays & Fridays Class participation is free, but students will need to rent their own instrument so they can practice at home! Scholarships for students with financial needs may be available) Please help your child remember to bring their instrument on the right day! Instruments must be stored NEATLY on the shelving in the hallways at school on your "Strings Day" and returned home for practice all week!
