Parking Information Map
In an effort to assist in minimizing congestion, we are also suggesting families strongly consider the following locations for drop-off and pick-up as opposed to dropping off students directly at the school itself:
- Community United Methodist Church Parking Lots (Thank you CUMC for your continued support!) This site can be used as a “Drop & Go” and/or a spot to park and walk your child to the school.
- Mills Ave as well as Moulton Ave may be used for Elementary drop-off and pick-up.
- Corner of Vanderwerp and Mills (“Drop & Go”) - especially for MS/HS students
- Corner of Vanderwerp and Moulton (“Drop & Go”) - especially for MS/HS students
- Also, to assist with congestion, please do not attempt to drop off MS/HS students prior to 8:00am (start time for the elementary)
- Parking lot off of Stewart, next to playground/basketball court
Help us maintain a safe and efficient campus by utilizing our designated "Drop & Go" locations and community parking lots for daily student arrivals and departures.
Norse Education Foundation The Norse Education Foundation funds go directly to benefit the school. We want to create a sustainable source of funding for generations to come, and so NEF is housed at the Muskegon Community Foundation and managed by financial advisers. NEF has added wonderful scholarships to our program to help support students. The Dorothy Wilson Memorial Scholarship was established in 2024 awarding $10,000 for a student headed for a 4-year program and $5,000 non-traditional scholarship for a student headed into a technical/trades program. Also along with the scholarships, NEF has also started contributing to students KickStart to Career bank accounts with the Dorothy Wilson Scholarship. NEF matches the beginning contribution of $50 for all Kindergarten accounts and $10 annually thereafter.
Fine Arts Boosters To support students' interest and skill development in vocal and/or instrumental music, art, and drama through the North Muskegon Public Schools Music, Visual Art, and Theatre Department(s).
To lend support as necessary to the Music, Visual Art, and Theatre Department programs in the North Muskegon Public Schools.
To provide as appropriate, funds and in-kind support for the Music, Visual Art, and Theatre Department(s) infrastructure and needed equipment.
To build and maintain an organization which will help promote the general activities of the Music, Visual Art, and Theatre Department(s).
School of Choice Information
The Collaborative Schools of Choice Program is a plan that offers parents and students a choice to attend other public schools in the Muskegon Area Intermediate School District outside their district of residence.
The number of choice Students enrolled is determined by the space available in the receiving district. If application requests exceed space available, a random draw will be used.
Application Procedures
Please review the application procedures for the Schools of Choice Program:
- The online application will openMay 1 and must be completed by May 30.
- Parents will be notified of acceptance by the choice district no later than July 1.
- Parents will verify attendance in the choice district by Monday, July 6.
Student Expectations
Students at North Muskegon are expected to:
- Attend school on a regular basis.
- Follow rules and regulations in the approved discipline policy.
- Complete all homework assignments (45 min.-2 hr. per evening).
- Dress in accordance with the dress code. (HS/MS)
- Strive to achieve expectations at the level of their ability.
Parent Expectations
Parents of North Muskegon are expected to:
- Attend parent-teacher conferences.
- Support their children by assisting with school work and participating in school related activities.
- Provide transportation to and from school on time. The school will not provide transportation for non-district attendees. Parents are expected to drop off and pick-up students.
- Elementary: 8:10 am Start of Class, 3:10 pm Dismissal
- Middle/High School: 8:10 am Start of Class, 3:10 Dismissal
- North Muskegon Elementary operates two unique Kindergarten programs, the Discovery Kindergarten and the Kindergarten. The district assesses all Kindergarten age students to determine which program would best suit a child's need and will make a recommendation for placement in either Discovery Kindergarten or Kindergarten to the child's parents based upon that assessment. Applying for Kindergarten does not guarantee placement in the Kindergarten section.
Application Due Date
Families who have read and agree with these expectations and wish to apply, should complete one online form per child no later than May 30, 2026.
Please Note:
- Failure to meet these agreements may result in ineligibility for either first time or continued schools of choice participation.
- Enrollment may be denied to a student who has been suspended from, expelled from, truant from or asked to leave another school district.
- Students entering grades 10-12, who transfer by choice from one school to another, will not be eligible to participate in interscholastic athletics for one full semester under the MHSAA transfer policy. (The date for this is Martin Luther King day in January). Therefore, students would be ineligible for Fall and Winter sports.
